House Rules

The use of The Makai House is to be used by the registered guest and the number of guests specified in the reservation.

You acknowledge and agree that no pets, smoking, vaping, illegal drugs, parties, or events are allowed on the property whatsoever, including lanais, porches, shed, driveway, and yards. Any evidence of a violation of this rule will result in automatic forfeit of the entire deposit and immediate eviction from the property.

We ask you to be mindful of other guests in the property and conduct yourself(s), in a proper manner at all times during your stay.

Please be careful with food around the furniture and bedroom area. If a spill happens, please let the on-island manager know ASAP, so we can help you get it cleaned properly. Also, clean up your food after each meal. In Hawaii, the food can be popular with unwanted pests if the premises are not maintained and cleaned.

Please use the hose, and wash the sand off when you come back from the beach, before getting into the house. Excessive sand throughout the house makes cleaning much harder, which will result in an additional cleaning fee.

Please do not leave garbage inside the kitchen or on the lanais, it will attract insects and rodents. The trash bins are outside.

City ordinance calls for a quiet time between 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Please keep noise to a minimum during this time.

You agree and authorize a credit card hold of $1,000 to be placed on your credit card, seven (7) days prior to your check-in date as security/damage deposit in relation to your current reservation. YOUR RESERVATION WILL NOT BE COMPLETED UNTIL THE CREDIT CARD HOLD IS IN PLACE. The credit card hold will be active for the time of your reservation and will automatically be released three (3) days after your check-out date, provided the following provisions are met:
a) No damage is done to property or its contents, beyond normal wear and tear.
b) No charges are incurred due to contraband, pets, smoking, or collection of rents or services rendered during the stay.
c) No excessive cleaning required. All debris, rubbish, and discards are placed in the dumpster and soiled dishes are cleaned.
d) No excessive utility charges are incurred.
e) No linens/towels or property contents are lost, stolen, or damaged.
f) The TENANT (or any of TENANT’S visitors) is not evicted by the owner (or representative of the owner), or the local law enforcement.
The entire amount of the security/damage deposit may be applied to actual damages caused by guests and or invitees, as permitted by law.

You agree to be held liable for your actions and the actions of your guests at all times and by doing so to indemnify and hold harmless your hosts and/or the on-island manager from any and all claims arising from you or your guest’s, and all liability, negligence on the part of either party, loss, damage, injury, or death resulting from the use of the property, it’s surroundings, and the provided ocean equipment, (kayaks, stand up paddleboards, surfboards, snorkel equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, etc.., where is applicable).

The space
Our home, called the Makai (towards the sea) house, is a well maintained and clean place where you will feel at home.

This is a private second floor unit with its own entrance and exclusive parking spot. There is a studio (vacation rental), and a one-bedroom unit with long-term tenants, on the first floor.

The place sleeps 8 comfortably.
Room 1 has a queen-size bed, air conditioner, ceiling fan, closet, door locks, and a door to access the back lanai.
Room 2 has a queen-size bed, ceiling fan, closet, and double privacy glass door with locks.
Room 3 has a queen-size bed, air conditioner, closet, and door locks.
The living room has a queen-size sofa bed.

We also have a pack-n-play crib available upon request.

The kitchen has cement countertops with stainless steel appliances. We have a Keurig coffee maker, a blender, a toaster and everything you need if you want to prepare your meals.

We have great Wi-Fi and an awesome assistant (Alexa-echo dot) that will help answer some of your questions during your stay.

The large open living room has two ceiling fans, two couches, two seating areas, and several windows providing ocean views, and nice ocean breezes both day and night. This space also has a 65 inch Smart TV with Roku, Apple TV where you can catch up on your Netflix shows or Airplay your pictures and movies.

There is a private front lanai where you can relax and enjoy the constant ocean breezes, or the back lanai where you can contemplate the beautiful Ko`olauloa mountains.

You will find some beach gear like chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, some goggles, floaties, and some kids’ beach toys inside the shed, and a large BBQ in the backyard. You are free to use them, we just ask that you be mindful of future guests being able to also enjoy them.

The laundry area and backyard, which are accessible via the small gate (#3) by the garage door, is a shared space.

You are welcome to use the shared space, but not to have parties..
Guest access
Guest will have access to the front porch, driveway, private second-floor unit with access to the front and back lanais, and to the shared backyard and laundry area.

Parking is available only for 1 car on the driveway. Please do not block the driveway that leads to the property in the back.

Guest interaction
We understand you are on vacation, and it is our top priority to offer you a stress-free, 5-star experience while in our house. We and the on-island manager are available to answer any questions or help in any way we can. You can contact us via texting and/or phone. You will also have a printed house guest guide, which should answer your questions, and provide some suggestions on attractions and eating in the surrounding areas.
Neighborhood overview
The quiet and peaceful neighborhood offers Hawaiian country living as it has always been- be warned that country living includes a few local roosters. Beautiful ocean and mountain views abound in the neighborhood. Cool breezes come from the ocean and mountain. Guests will enjoy Hawaii as many hope it to be, free from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Getting around
The local bus stop is just 1 minute from the home and there are frequent stops. The bus system takes you anywhere on the island. Check out online for more info online on the bus.org. We do recommend a car if possible, to allow you to explore all the hidden jewels we have in the island.
